Over Three Generations of Flooring Excellence
In 1976, Foster Flooring was established as a local, family-owned business by family patriarch, Ron Foster Sr. and his brothers. Originally the company opened on Union Street in Poughkeepsie and from
there moved up to Main Street. After
a devastating fire, the business eventually
moved to the 44 Plaza.
Another move occurred in 1990 from the Poughkeepsie 44 Plaza location
to the current showroom which is located in
the very heart of Staatsburg Village directly behind
Portofino's Restaurant.
Subsequently, the proverbial torch was passed from father to son, the current owner, Ron Foster II, along with co-owner and brother-in-law Glen LaGoy. Having learned everything about flooring and the entire industry from a lifetime of hands-on experience with the reigning parental experts, these knowledgeable perfectionists serve the Hudson Valley with the same outstanding customer service, quality products and flawless installation that Ron Foster Sr. insisted upon over 30 years ago.

Tips on Sizing Up Your Room or Your Windows
Getting a handle on the square footage of your space
will help you get a grip on your budget
Carpet, vinyl, tile, laminates and hardwood are all sold by the square foot, so, the size of your room can be a big factor in your choice of floor surface. Though a measuring specialist will obtain precise dimensions before you buy, it’s a good idea to begin with an approximate idea of your room or window size. With this information, you’ll be able to zero in on the type of floor or window treatment and the price range that best suits your budget. Use a simple retractable tape measure, not a ruler or yardstick. It should be at least 12 feet long. You’ll also also need a calculator, pencil and paper to jot down your calculations. Ideally, measuring a room or a span of windows is a two-person job, one at each end of the measuring tape.
Here are a few tips on measuring your floors:
1. For the most accurate measurement, place the tape on the floor, not up in the air or on the wall.
2. First measure the room’s length, then its width. Round off to the nearest half-foot.
3. To get the area, multiply the two sides (length x width).
4. Measure alcoves separately and add the area to the square footage of the main room.
5. Be sure to write down the dimensions rather than trusting them to memory.
